Credentials

Femke and Lars Roobol (both born in 1966) did their first genealogical research (on their own families) in 1983, after Lars had followed a course at the Central Bureau of Genealogy in the Hague.  After this, genealogy has never left their minds.

After their studies at the University of Leiden (Lars majored in numerical mathematics and low-temperature physics, then did a Ph. D. in experimental physics, Femke majored in Italian language and literature, analysing a 16th century text for her M.A.), they went to live in Bayreuth (Germany), London (United Kingdom), and Groningen (the Netherlands). There, they enhanced their efforts in genealogy further, which led to the birth of Family Affairs on January 1st, 2000. After that, they lived in Alkmaar, and Stompetoren.

Lars's main occupation is manager of the Hot Cell Laboratories in Petten (http://www.nrg-nl.com), where most of the radioactive substances used for medical diagnosis and (cancer) therapy throughout the world are being made.

Femke teaches French on a (secondary) school. She hopes to publish her first (Dutch) novel soon.

Femke has been a committee member of the Dutch genealogical society (NGV), division of Groningen, responsible for press releases and the website of the division. She also organises genealogy workshops in collaboration with the archives of Groningen.
Lars is host of two  rootsweb discussion lists: those of the provinces of Friesland and of Overijssel.
Femke and Lars have been GenLias volunteers , typing in the marriages of the city of Haren, and the church books of Losdorp and Kleinemeer, all in Groningen.
Together, they have held a series of lectures on Dutch internet genealogy at the archives of Groningen.
In May of 2006, Lars has held a series of lectures on Dutch internet genealogy at the 60th anniversary symposium of the NGV (Dutch Genealogical Society).
They are members of the NGV (Dutch Genealogical Society) and "Ons Voorgeslacht", the society for genealogy in the province of Zuid-Holland, and the CBG (Central Bureau for Genealogy).
They have been recognized as professional researchers by the CBG (Central Bureau for Genealogy).
